By the end of the 17th century, Anne Marie Orsini, duchess of Bracciano and princess of Nerola, Italy, introduced the essence of bitter orange tree as a fashionable fragrance by using it to perfume her gloves and her bath. Since then, the term ‘neroli’ has been used to describe this essence. Neroli has a refreshing and distinctive, spicy aroma with sweet and flowery notes.

Neroli oil is reportedly one of the ingredients in the closely guarded secret recipe for the Coca-Cola soft drink. It is a flavoring ingredient of open source cola recipes, although some variants consider it as optional, owing to the high cost. It also has a limited use in flavorings. It blends well with any citrus oil, various floral absolutes, and most of the synthetic components available on the market.

The pomelo tree can be 5–15 meters (16–50 feet) tall, with a trunk, often rather crooked, that is 10–30 centimeters (4–12 inches) thick, and low-hanging, irregular branches. The petioles (leaf stalks) are distinctly winged. The leaves are alternate, ovate or elliptic in shape, and 5–20 cm (2–8 in) long; they are leathery and dull green above, hairy beneath. The flowers — single or in clusters — are fragrant and yellow-white in color.

Orange blossoms are fragrant flowers that grow on the bitter orange tree, otherwise known as the wild orange tree. These trees are found along the Mediterranean Sea, with a region in Spain even nicknamed the Costa del Azahar, or orange blossom coast, a result of the orange groves that can be found lining the coast. In March, the trees grow the small, white waxy flowers before producing the bitter orange. Orange blossom, like many other white floral notes, was present in several 18th-century scents by Jean-Louis Fargeon (the royal perfumer). These include Parfum de Trianon, which was created for Marie Antoinette, as well as in Eau de Cypre Composée, created for Madame du Barry. When Louis XIV built the Palace of Versailles, he instructed that the beds of Grand Trianon be planted with many of these beautiful flowers, leading to its well-known nickname, the perfumed court.

Xuixo is a viennoiserie from the city of Girona in Catalonia, Spain. It is a deep-fried, sugar-coated cylindrical product filled with crema catalana. According to a legend in Girona, the invention of the Xuixo has to be credited to el Tarlà, a very sympathetic person that is very present in the legends of this area. This acrobat that entertained the citizens in a quarantine during an epidemic fell in love with the daughter of a pastry chef. Once, when he visited his beloved girl, her father appeared, and he hid in a bag of flour. Unfortunately, he sneezed (which sounds like xui-xui) and was discovered. Before the pastry chef could get angry, he promised to marry his daughter and to give him the recipe of a special pastry: the Xuixo. He named it after the sneeze that betrayed him. Nowadays, a figure of el Tarlà can be seen every year during the spring festivities when its copy is erected at the place where he had entertained the people of Girona.

The Love for the Three Oranges or The Three Citrons (Neapolitan: Le Tre Cetre) is an Italian literary fairy tale written by Giambattista Basile in the Pentamerone in the 17th century. It is the concluding tale, and the one the heroine of the frame story uses to reveal that an imposter has taken her place. The literary tale by Basile is considered to be the oldest attestation of tale type ATU 408, “The Three Oranges”, of the international Aarne-Thompson-Uther Index. Variants are recorded from oral tradition among European Mediterranean countries, in the Middle East and Turkey, as well as across Iran and India. A king, who only had one son, anxiously waited for him to marry. One day, the prince cut his finger; his blood fell on white cheese. The prince declared that he would only marry a woman as white as the cheese and as red as the blood, so he set out to find her. The prince wandered the lands until he came to the Island of Ogresses, where two little old women each told him that he could find what he sought here, if he went on, and the third gave him three citrons, with a warning not to cut them until he came to a fountain. A fairy would fly out of each, and he had to give her water at once.

L’amour des trois oranges, Op. 33, is a 1921 satirical French-language opera by Sergei Prokofiev. He wrote his own libretto, basing it on the Italian play L’amore delle tre melarance, or The Love for Three Oranges (Russian: Любовь к трём апельсинам) by Carlo Gozzi, and conducted the premiere, which took place at the Auditorium Theatre in Chicago on 30 December 1921. The opera resulted from a commission during Prokofiev’s first visit to the United States in 1918. After well-received concerts of his works in Chicago, including his First Symphony, Prokofiev was approached by the director of the Chicago Opera Association, Cleofonte Campanini, to write an opera. Conveniently the composer had already drafted a libretto during his voyage to America, one based on Gozzi’s Italian play in mock commedia dell'arte style (itself an adaptation of Giambattista Basile’s fairy tale). He had done so using Vsevolod Meyerhold’s Russian translation of the Gozzi and had injected a dose of Surrealism into the commedia dell'arte mix. But Russian would have been unacceptable to an American audience, and Prokofiev’s English was scanty, so, with possible help from soprano Vera Janacopoulos, he settled on French.

The Monza Circuit, officially called the Autodromo Nazionale Monza, is a 5.793 km (3.600 mi) race track near the city of Monza, north of Milan, in Italy. Built in 1922, it was the world's third purpose-built motor racing circuit after Brooklands and Indianapolis and the oldest in mainland Europe. The circuit’s biggest event is the Italian Grand Prix. With the exception of the 1980 running when the track was closed while undergoing refurbishment, the race has been hosted there since 1949. The circuit is also known as “the Temple of Speed” due to its long straights and high-speed corners. Built in the Royal Villa of Monza park in a woodland setting, the site has three tracks—the 5.793 km (3.600 mi) Grand Prix track, the 2.405 km (1.494 mi) Junior track, and a 4.250 km (2.641 mi) high speed oval track with steep bankings, which was left unused for decades and had been decaying until it was restored in the 2010s. The major features of the main Grand Prix track include the Curva Grande, the Curva di Lesmo, the Variante Ascari and the Curva Alboreto (formerly Curva Parabolica). The high speed curve, Curva Grande, is located after the Variante del Rettifilo which is located at the end of the front straight or Rettifilo Tribune, and is usually taken flat out by Formula One cars.

Zurracapote (sometimes abbreviated as zurra) is a popular Spanish alcoholic mixed drink, similar to sangría. It consists of red wine mixed with fruit such as peaches and lemons, sugar, and cinnamon. The concoction is then traditionally left to steep for several days, though some recipes call for the addition of other alcoholic beverages, juices, and fruit extracts. The result is a mild-to-medium alcoholic drink, similar to sangría. The drink is normally prepared in large receptacles during local festivals with many local variations in recipe. It was first drunk in Calahorra, where Peña Phillips developed the recipe through several competitions. It is the typical drink of the La Rioja area and nearby areas such as northern Burgos, Soria, Ribera Navarra, and the Basque Country. It is also prepared in other Spanish provinces, such as Albacete, northern Granada, Ciudad Real, Cuenca, and Guadalajara.

Falanghina, also called Falanghina Greco, is a variety of wine grape, Vitis vinifera, used for white wines. It is an ancient grape variety which may have provided a basis for the classical Falernian wine, and has considerable character. It is cultivated on the coast of Campania north of Naples, and frequently consumed in southern Italy along with seafood. The name for the wine appears to derive from the Latin falangae, or stakes for supporting the grapes in a vineyard. Falernian wine grew in popularity, becoming one of the most highly regarded wines accessible to and consumed by the ancient Romans. Falanghina is also known under the synonyms Biancazita, Biancozita, Biancuzita, Falanchina, Falanchina Bianca, Falanghina Verace, Falenghina, Falernina, Falerno Veronese, Fallanchina, Fallanghina, Folanghina, Montecalvo, Montellese, and Uva Falerna.
